I was very interested in a blog post on blogger.com by fellow classmate Visitar Perfil. In his blog post he expresses his concern for millennials in the upcoming election. I agree with much of his topic but will like to add on.
Lately with the democratic presidential debates whining down I have been thinking similar thoughts. Although democrats are supposed to be the party for new ideas and for young people, the past two elections feels like a disconnection between the party and the younger Americans. Younger America loves President Barack Obama as most millennials expresses how they miss him on social media. He was a fresh face, he was beloved in pop culture because he used pop culture references from movies and music. But he also expressed problems that the new generation was facing like global warming and civil rights like gay marriage.
When Hillary Clinton became the Presidential candidate for the 2016 election, she did not gather the same support from the younger party like Obama did. Mostly because the younger people supported Bernie Sanders more. They felt like Hillary only cared about things so she can get people's votes. They also felt like Clinton cheated Bernie and the only reason why they voted for her is because they seriously hated Donald Trump. There can also be an argument that Donald Trump appealed to young America then Hillary Clinton. With his involvement in social media he was a walking meme and created a marketing dynasty through his Twitter page.
This presidential election unless Trump is impeached can end in similar fashion. With presidential candidates like Beto O'Rouke and Julian Castro who gathered support from millennials out of the race, we are most likely to have Joe Biden as our democratic presidential candidate. He is very similar to Hillary Clinton as both have left the millennials much to be desired. Millennials are the present and the future, we need to get our opinions and votes to be more valued.

Last week we were able to give Death Row Inmate Rodney Reed a couple of more months to live. Rodney Reed was convicted in 1998 for rape, kidnapping and capital murder for allegedly killing Stacey Stiles on April 23, 1996. The question I want to present is should we still have the death penalty? Rodney Reed’s life is literally in the hands of an all white jury in the racist county of Bastrop and crooked cops. There has been evidence that Rodney did not commit this crime and Stacey’s husband who was a cop killed her. We can literally kill a man who may have not commit the crime that would sentence him to death. We should not solve a murder with a murder. It actually cost 380 million dollars to execute somebody. We can literally keep someone in jail for the rest of their life without them being on the streets and it will literally have the same effects as the death penalty. We can use that money to fix the justice system so that innocent inmates can get the justice they deserve. Thankfully Rodney Reed’s case looks to get better by each passing day as recently he received a new judge. But if he does not get off of this case it could lead to another person who the public believes in innocent being killed.

In my heart I believe that minimum wage should be raised to 15 dollars an hour, but in my mind I realize that if minimum wage is risen that will most likely make things more expensive than what they should be, because businesses are in the business to make money. As I read a post from Lania Manning on blogger.com, I agree with what she is saying but I believe there is levels to this commitment. i believe that this will cause a slippery slope. If we raise minimum wage, companies are going to try to do anything to make that money back. So you should expect an increase in prices. This will also lead to companies increasing their prices because people have more money. I feel like we shouldn't have a focus on increasing minimum wage, I feel the government should try to do more to limit the price of living. If we do that, then every American should be able to eat if they have a job and should be able to live a normal life. If we do choose the route of increasing minimum wage we need to make sure that prices do not rise at an alarming rate.

It is going to be 2020 in two months and the state of Texas still has not legalized weed. There are so many benefits in legalizing marijuana not only for the citizens, but for the government. Colorado legalized Marijuana in January 2014 which led to an economic boost for the state. Since the government owned the weed they could tax the drug for their own use. According to thoughtco.com, since 2014 the sell of weed in Colorado has top 4.5 billion dollars in the state.
Another reason why it is beneficial for Marijuana to be legal country wide is because it will make it harder for children to get the drug. Since weed would not be a black market item anymore, this would lead to better control of who will have the substance. Just like the difficulty of children obtaining alcohol because stores can sell it, the fact that stores sell the drug will make it more difficult for children to possess the drug.
My third and final reason for the legalization of Marijuana country wide is that this will lead to a better justice system. According to FBI Unified Crime Statistics, there were 587,700 arrest made for marijuana. That is more than volient crimes like rape and murder combined. These arrest put an unfair burden on young people, especially those of color. WIth the drug being legalized it would put an emphasis on crimes that actually matter, and not ruin the lives of young people that have a record for possessing Marijuana.

We are a year away from election day and President Donald Trump is already campaigning. According to this blog post by the Huffington Post written by Roque Planas, President Trump might be in trouble in Texas, the biggest Red state. Planas is intended audience is Democrats and anyone who is opposite Donald Trump. You can say that there is some bias in the argument since Planas is a liberal writing for a liberal leaning website. Planas claims that he thinks that only reason why Donald Trump visited Dallas last night is because he believes that he is going to lose the state of Texas next presidential election which counts as 38 electoral votes. He supports his argument by saying that he sees lackluster poll numbers and crippling Republican party. He also uses some quotes from Republicans and Democrats. He uses a quote from Rice political scientist Mark Jones. Jones states that Trump is the "worst thing to happen to the Texas Republican party in the last 20 years. He literally turned Texas into a pink state." He also uses a quote from Republican Texas House Speaker Dennis Bonnen. "With all due respect to Trump, who I love by the way, he's killing us in the urban-suburban districts." As much as I want to agree with this article because I do not support Donald Trump for numerous reasons. We can't believe that he will lose Texas until he actually loses Texas. We believed that Beto O'Rourke was going to defeat Ted Cruz in the senate with all the support that Beto had with Ellen Show appearances and his senate runout. Ted Cruz still beat him without much promotion. But hopefully in about a year this article can become true.

For the past week or so, I've been very interested in the opinion of the latest democratic presidential debate involving Julian Castro and Joe Biden. In the debate, Julian Castro , a native Texan apparently took a jab at 76 year old Joe Biden's age. Most critics believe that Castro was bullying Biden, although Biden has said that he would "beat the hell out of Trump". I believe the criticism is very far-fetched since the two nominees are in a debate setting. So I looked for articles to find out the reasons why people were so offended by what Castro had said. I then found an article on USA today on why people found Castro's comments so dreadful. I believe it is a good read about how democrats think while picking a president.
